The Dream Challenge/Exhibition is an event that spans over two months. On December 5, 2019 our 9th grade students developed their own interpretation of what the American Dream is and what it looked like to them. We took a glance into the life of Activist and Author, Ta-Nehisi Coates and his letter to his son titled, Between the World and Me. In this publication, we looked at his experiences and how he tries teaching his young African American son what it means to be black in America. After reading this and completing other connecting elements, scholars wrote to a younger member of their family. This becomes their Dream Letter, which was put on display and read aloud during the event where parents and staff joined to celebrate the scholars.
